There are many ancient cities on the peninsula other than Halikarnassos. These cities are Pedasa, Telmissos (Gürece), Termera and Aspat Castle, Musgebi (Ortakent), Old and New Myndos, Uranion, Madnasa, Sibda (Side), Syangela, Theangela, respectively. Most of them are Lelegian settlements. Six people from these settlements were forced to migrate to Halicarnassos during the time of the King of Halicarnassos, while Old Myndos and Syangela were rebuilt in different places in the Hellenistic order. Thus, a strong and built Halicarnassos was created instead of scattered and weak urbanists. Halicarnassus was developed on the site of a small city called Zephyria on the peninsula where the existing fortress is located. It was founded by Anthes, the son of Poseidon of Troezen. The Aiols, Ionians and Dorians who came to the southern Aegean shores established six cities in the region. The growth of Halicarnassos was during the period of the Carian satrap Mausolos. Knowing the possibilities of port cities, Mausolos created the city surrounded by walls according to Hellenistic traditions. Halicarnassos, which boasted of having not seen earthquakes in the Roman Age for a long time, is the birthplace of the historian Herodotus.
